Artist, Musician

Kavall is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and performer of contemporary immersive music, based in Berlin and the Black Forest. He studied jazz guitar, composes music for film, contemporary dance, and performs his music solo in the form of an immersive concert installation.

His music is inspired by his interest in spaces, both as acoustic environments and as metaphorical, emotional spaces. In his compositions, he explores the transition between physical and metaphorical spaces by melting the sound of acoustic instruments with their processed layers, eventually transferring their metaphorical qualities to the physical space.

Kavall's interest in stringed instruments as precise and expressive, playable interfaces stems from the guitar but has since expanded towards building custom instruments that allow him to create yet unheard timbres of harmonic, textural, and percussive characteristics.

His vision to physically 'be inside' the music led to a new form of installation concert performance: Spatial Guitar. The first of its kind to reimagine the electric guitar as an instrument of independent, spatial voices that surround the audience. Compositions of spatially choreographed music, immersive textures, and circular patterns pair with an audio-reactive light installation for an immersive audiovisual experience.

Kavall’s concert performances are presented in music and art venues internationally. Films with his scores have been screened and awarded on festivals worldwide.
