With a roster of collaborators that includes the likes of Meshell Ndgeocello and Bilal (to quote only a couple), Pianist, Singer-Songwriter, Producer and multi-instrumentalist Jake Sherman belongs to an extraordinarily rare group of musicians whose growing body of work is an inspiring combination of contemplative depth and poetic reminders of musical eras far removed from the social-media, 'content'-centric offerings aimed at the goldfish-memories of the post-Instagram / Instagram-post audience.

Growing up in a musical family (his parents are both professional musicians) amidst the strains of his father's daily Bach practice rituals and an early mentorship by Jazz-organ legend Lonnie Smith, the inherent brilliance is barely disguised by the sensitive, subtlety of the musical nuances and bitter-sweet humor on his current album aptly titled 'What A Wonderful World', recorded live in his NYC studio.

This long-form conversation traces the earlier parts of his musical journey, why 'perfect' music may not be quite the fallacy it is often thought of, and if 'good' and 'bad' music still exist beyond mere concepts in the 21st century.

Jake Sherman

singer-songwriter / producer / keyboardist

Jake Sherman is a multi instrumentalist, best known for his keyboard playing with Rosalia, Chance The Rapper, Meshell Ndegeocello, Nick Hakim, Bilal, and Andrew Bird. He has recorded five solo albums on which he sings and plays all the instruments. The most recent of these came out this month and features stripped back live performances of vocals and piano.
