London-based Mauritian SInger/Producer Rouhangeze Baichoo Speaks to T.L. Mazumdar
Between the 15-year-old on the East African island of Mauritius who founded a record label and a recording studio in quiet defiance to an environment yet to assign official status to professional musicians, and the powerful voice that made its debut at Ronnie Scotts with some of Londons most respected musicians, is the journey of an entrepreneurial mind determined to build a path for herself as an independent artist creating art on her own terms.
Singer, producer, and beloved hostess of JazzFM Rouhangeze Baichoo's story is the inspiring tale of chance meets faith, effort meets allowance and nurture meets nature between two islands that couldn't be more different from each other, even as they display the universal humanity that creates the fundament of her artistic philosophies.
We catch up in this long-form informal conversation to revisit some of its milestones, both reassuring and wary digging deeper into what made it all happen.
